Meet the speakers
Peter Paul van de Wij
Peter Paul is currently the Chief Policy Officer of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and is responsible for driving the adoption of the GRI Standards by into rules and regulations set by (national) policymakers and capital markets around the world.
Peter Paul has over 20 years of professional experience in public policy, communications and sustainability. In addition to leading his own business, Peter Paul has held executive positions at the LEGO Foundation and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD).
Earlier in his career, Peter Paul has held various international positions in communications, sustainable development, government affairs and issues management at The Dow Chemical Company, including leadership of Dow’s Global Water Strategy Team. He holds a degree in Communications from the College for Economic and Business Administration Studies in Eindhoven, the Netherlands.
Elaine is an expert voice in the field of sustainability strategy and reporting. As the founder-manager of Beyond Business Ltd. (www.b-yond.biz), she has supported 140+ client ESG/CSR/Sustainability Reports and other disclosures since 2005. Elaine has authored three books on sustainable practice and co-authored book chapters and academic papers. Elaine is ESG Competent Boards Certified (2021) with the designation GCB.D.
Elaine helps shape the reporting landscape as an independent contributor through the CSR Reporting blog since 2008 and as a conference chair, moderator, panelist and judge at sustainability events and reporting award programs around the world each year. Elaine was selected as Trust Across America 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award honoree.
Colleen Theron, CEO Ardea International
Colleen is a tri-qualified solicitor and founder of Ardea International, a specialist company that provides sustainability, business and human rights and modern slavery expertise to enable companies to meet both their legal obligations and develop voluntary best practice standards. She is a fellow of IEMA and a research fellow of the Bakhita Centre for Research on Slavery and Abuse and a lecturer at Birkbeck University, London on human rights and business.
She has over 30 years of legal and commercial experience working with business, and organisations and provides training and online resources on human rights, modern slavery and sustainability issues.
She sits on the advisory board for LexisPSL Environment, is a committee member of the Social Responsibility Alliance and is an independent member of the APSCA Board for Member Firms. She is nominated as one of the Top 100 Corporate Modern Slavery influencers in the UK in 2018 and Ardea International was recently shortlisted for the Thomson Reuters Foundation Stop Slavery Award for SME’s.
