We’re delighted to announce that after the success of our inaugural conference last year, we will be hosting another!
Ardea’s Modern Slavery Conference 2024 will be held on Thursday 7th November 2024 in London.
Last year’s conference was a resounding success, bringing together individuals from across sectors, working in a variety of roles. The day focused on challenges in addressing modern slavery risk but, more importantly, offered pragmatic solutions through real-life examples.
We found several key takeaways:
- Modern slavery can be difficult to identify using a checklist approach. Exploitation often takes varying forms and whilst the archetypal indicators of modern slavery can act as useful ‘flags’, it’s important to consider potential exploitation where the indicators are not present.
- For businesses, addressing modern slavery is a long journey. UK modern slavery legislation first came into existence in 2015, and it takes time to close the gaps in a company’s processes. One of the most important skills is learning how to get buy-in from a business’ leadership by identifying how eradicating modern slavery aligns with their priorities.
- Procurement practitioners have a crucial role to play in addressing modern slavery. Key challenges faced by procurement teams include limited resources and the pressure of balancing value and cost. However, obtaining quality suppliers and eliminating labour exploitation doesn’t have to cost more in the long term.
We’ll be building on last year’s takeaways, from lessons learnt, and from all the successes – we’re confident that this year is going to be even better than the last!
